(Halifax County, Va.) — Halifax County authorities are investigating a smash-and-go robbery at a Dollar General Store, the latest in a rash of burglaries in the area.
The county’s 911 center received the call around 10 Sunday night from the Volens Dollar General Store.
Sheriff’s deputies and state police responded and found that the store had been robbed. Police say that shortly after the store closed for the night, two men smashed a front door glass and forced their way inside. Both were armed and demanded money from the cashier. The pair fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.
A county sheriff’s tracking K-9 responded, and it was determined the subjects ran to a car parked nearby and left the area. A gun was recovered at the scene.
The robbers are both described as black males, one approximately 6’ 2”, and the other about 5’ 7”.
