(Danville, Va.) – The National Weather Service says Danville can expect the bitterly cold temperatures to continue through the weekend, with a chance of sleet Monday morning.
A wind chill advisory is in effect through Friday, with a forecast of wind chill values below zero for the next two days. Winds will gust as high as 25 mph. The NWS says to expect lows in the single digits for the next two nights, with the first real relief not coming until Monday afternoon, when temperatures will rise to around 40.
All of the East Coast is in the grips of the deep freeze, one day after a winter storm dumped as much as 18 inches of snow and unleashed bitter cold, hurricane-force winds and historic coastal flooding from the Carolinas to Maine.
Forecasters say Friday will bring a blast of record-breaking cold air and bitter winds that could make it feel as low as minus 15 degrees throughout much of the Northeast this weekend.
National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Hurley says mid-Atlantic states can expect temperatures in the teens while the Northeast’s coastal areas will see temperatures in the single digits.
He says the South won’t be spared the cold weather, either.
