(Danville, Va.) — The Danville Fire Marshal says a fire on Buford Street started in some wiring in a front wall.
The fire department was called to 821 Buford Street around 6:30 p.m.
Heavy smoke and fire were visible from the roof of the single-story frame house when the first units arrived. Crews pulled down some interior ceilings and were able to douse flames in the attic.
The owners were away at the time but arrived and told firefighters a small dog was inside the home. He was found under a bed and was unharmed.
The fire was under control in less than thirty minutes but firefighters were on the scene for two-and-a-half hours.
The home will need repair and the family is being helped by the Red Cross.
