(Danville, Va.) – The National Weather Service reports that Danville received 2.5 inches of snow last night, although locally heavier amounts were reported. Most roads remained snow-covered Sunday morning although conditions should slowly improve as temperatures rise today. Gradual clearing is expected with a high in the mid-40s this afternoon.
Public Works crews worked through the night plowing snow. Major thoroughfares are clear. Crews are now plowing in residential streets.
Fallen trees are being reported throughout the city. Public Works tree crews are responding.
Utilities crews worked through the night to restore power service. At this time, more than 3,000 customers are without power as heavy, wet snow pushed tree limbs over lines. Some of the areas without power are South Main Street and Industrial Avenue in the city and Mount Hermon, Dry Fork and Brosville communities in Pittsylvania County.
There were no reports of snow-related accidents locally Saturday night.
Danville Regional Airport is open.
