(Danville, Va.) — About 2,500 customers are without power Sunday afternoon. The outages include a circuit feeder that serves 955 customers in the South Main Street and Industrial Avenue areas in Danville. A circuit feeder that serves 862 customers in portions of Mount Hermon and Dry Fork is also out. The remaining outages are scattered throughout our service territory.

The power outages are due to fallen trees and tree limbs that were weighted down by heavy, wet snow. Customers also are experiencing repeat outages as tree limbs bounce into power lines as the snow melts.

Pike contract crews are assisting us in restoring power. We will work around the clock to restore power, but some customers will be without power for another 12 to 24 hours.

Electric customers whose residence or business is without power should call Danville Utilities at (434) 773-8300 to report the outage.

Public Works crews today cleared nearly 80 tree limbs and trees from street right-of-ways. Nearly 20 tree limbs and trees remain in street right-of-ways, but they are entangled with power lines and cannot be cleared until utilities crews respond.

Temperatures will fall overnight to a low of 29 degrees. On Monday, sunny skies will push temperatures to a high near 52.

Danville Transit fixed-route buses and reservation-based services will operate as normal on Monday.
