(Danville, Va.) — The Danville Fire Marshal’s Office says a Monday night fire started in the kitchen in some unattended cooking. The fire at 1160 Piney Forest Road left a family of eight homeless. No one was injured but the two-story house suffered heavy damage in the fire.
Meanwhile, the fire marshal says a weekend brush fire that blacked five acres off Barringer Drive Friday was the result of illegal burning.
The fire was confined to a field but additional manpower was called to the scene due to the large size of the fire and the windy weather conditions. The State Forestry Department used bulldozers to cut a fire line to contain the flames.
Illegal burning charges are pending against the property owner.
