(Franklin County, Va.) — Two people were rescued in Franklin County after their car became stuck in high water Thursday afternoon.

The flash flooding in Ferrum left a motorist stranded on Hopkins Road until members of Franklin County Public Safety and the Rocky Mount Volunteer Fire Department responded. Rescue personnel helped the driver and a passenger to safety. The flood waters receded and no one was injured.

Lightning split a large tree in half behind a home in Rocky Mount but there was no damage to the residence and no there were no injuries.
