(Danville, Va.) — Danville Police say the 16-year-old who was shot over the weekend was targeted by the driver of a car whose vehicle had been egged by a group of teenagers.

Police say the 16-year-old and a couple of his friends were riding around Saturday night egging cars in the area of Melrose Drive and Briarwood Lane.

A man in one of the cars hit by an egg shot at the teens’ car, hitting the 16-year-old in the buttocks. The driver of the teens’ car crashed near Union Street Bridge while attempting to get the 16-year-old to the hospital.

Danville Police Lt. Richard Chivvis said the teenagers and their families are cooperating with investigators and they hope to find the person responsible. To this point, no arrest has been made.

Police believe the shooter was driving a dark colored sedan, possibly a Nissan or a Kia.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers or the Danville Police Department.
