(Danville, Va.) – Danville city employees and their families now have another option when it comes to primary care.

The city has opened a new health care clinic on Bridge Street, in the heart of the Tobacco Warehouse District.

The facility will offer both acute and routine care, along with health and chronic disease management, telemedicine, and laboratory services.

CareTeam will operate the clinic. Based in South Carolina, CareTeam was one of 11 companies to submit a proposal for the service.

Same-day appointments will be available to city employees and families on the health plan, with shorter wait times and 20-to-30-minute appointments.

The idea was first suggested to city council six years ago by Vice Mayor Lee Vogler, who estimates a savings to the city of over $180,000 during the first five years.

Care Team has hired Laurie Taylor as the nurse practitioner. A lifelong resident of the Danville area, she has worked as a nurse practitioner for Centra Health in urgent care and the Danville Veteran’s Clinic providing primary care.
