(Sussex County, Va.) (WVIR) — The man responsible for murdering Morgan Harrington and Hannah Graham has been transferred to another prison in Virginia.

Jesse Matthew was moved to a facility south of Richmond this week after being diagnosed with cancer.

On Tuesday, the Albemarle County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office alerted the mother of Morgan Harrington that Jesse Matthew is being transferred to a new prison as he undergoes treatment.

Matthew, who pleaded guilty to the murders of Graham and Harrington back in 2016, was serving his time at supermax facility Red Onion State Prison in Wise County.

On Tuesday, Gil Harrington, Morgan’s mother, says she was told Matthew would be transferred to Sussex 1 State Prison, which is south of Richmond.

Harrington says she worked for a long time to help keep Matthew behind bars, and hopes it stays that way.

Officials have not yet confirmed where Matthew will be receiving treatment.
