Ridgeway, Va. — An Eden man wanted in a kidnapping and shooting that happened Sunday night was spotted near the Virginia-North Carolina Tuesday morning but fled into the woods after a traffic stop.
37-year-old Jesse Wayne Edwards was sighted in the Ridgeway area, near the Virginia-North Carolina border. He was stopped and pulled over before fleeing.
Police from two states spent the day searching by land and air for Edwards, but turned up nothing.
Eden Police and Rockingham County Sheriff’s deputies have been searching for Edwards since late Sunday night. That’s when he allegedly kidnapped a man in Ruffin and forced him to drive to an Eden address at gunpoint. Once there, authorities say he fired five shots into a home, striking a woman in the leg. She was taken to an area hospital and is expected to recover. Edwards then forced the driver to take him back to Eden, where he got out near a bridge on NC 14.
Edwards faces multiple gun charges as well as a first-degree kidnapping charge. He is considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
