Caswell County, N.C. – One person was killed in a head-on crash on N.C. 86 Monday when a northbound SUV collided head-on with a southbound tractor-trailer.

The driver of the silver SUV died at the scene. According to witnesses, the driver of the SUV crossed the center line of the roadway, directly into the path of the 18-wheeler.

The trooper who investigated said it did not appear that speed was a factor in the wreck. It’s not known why the driver crossed the center line.

The 158 exit headed south was blocked off and a half-mile section of road was closed as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.

The deceased’s name was not available.
