DANVILLE, Va. — Federal, North Carolina and Virginia agencies will hold meetings in Danville and Eden next week to discuss an agreement between Duke Energy and officials in both states.
The nation’s largest electric utility and officials from both states recently announced a deal that should end restoration efforts mounted in the wake of a massive coal ash spill five years ago that coated 70 miles of the Dan River in a thick, gray sludge.
The meeting in Danville will be held next Tuesday, followed by a Wednesday session in Eden.
Duke Energy spokesman Bill Norton said the company won’t disclose how much it has spent on restoration, which includes buying more than 500 acres to be incorporated into parks by both states.
