PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – Amazon announced plans Thursday to build a new solar farm in Gretna. The Pittsylvania County solar farm will be the company’s seventh renewable energy project in the state of Virginia.
Amazon said in a news release that the solar farm will provide 45 megawatts of clean energy and is expected to generate 100,000 megawatt-hours of renewable energy annually.
Amazon will locate the solar farm on three parcels of land in Gretna owned by the Moon family. Power generated from the facility will be delivered to transmission lines owned by Virginia Electric and Power Company.
The Pittsylvania County Planning Commission previously signed off on the project.
U.S. Sen. Mark Warner praised the investment and Amazon’s “continued investment in clean and renewable energy projects in the Commonwealth of Virginia.” He added that this solar energy project in Pittsylvania County “will lead to a cleaner environment and more jobs in the community.”
The new solar farms are part of a renewable energy project headed by Amazon that will bring farms to both U.S. and Ireland.
