PITTSBORO, N.C. – Three people, including a Danville woman, were arrested during the protest over the removal of a Confederate statue in Pittsboro, N.C. Saturday.
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said the protest included supporters and opponents of a plan to move a statue that has stood at the site for a century.
Those arrested are: Jessica Lynne Reavis, 40, of Danville, Va.; Richard Dundas Allen, 43, of Pittsboro; and Thalia Katheria Considnie, 30, of Durham. Reavis was arrested for carrying a concealed gun and carrying a concealed weapon. Allen was charged with disorderly conduct, while Considnie was charged with disorderly conduct, carrying concealed weapons at parades.
Each was released on a written promise to appear in court on Nov. 6. No one was hurt at the rally.
Chatham’s commissioners voted 4-1 in August to ask a United Daughters of the Confederacy chapter to have a plan by Oct. 1 to remove the statute. The county let the UDC install the statute in 1907. Without a plan, the county will declare it a public trespass by Nov. 1, making it eligible for removal.
