DANVILLE, Va. – Morgan Olson will bring 703 jobs to Danville.
The company will purchase the 925,000-square-foot Ikea manufacturing plant and plans to spend about $58,000,000 to refurbish the facility. The company makes delivery vans for Fed Ex, UPS, and others and plans to bring the Danville manufacturing operation up to speed in two phases.
Plans call for the first trucks to roll off the assembly line in Danville in June or July of 2020.
Morgan Olson is an American aluminum vehicle company that is America’s leading producer of aluminum walk-in vans. It was founded in 1946 on Long Island, New York, by Jimmy Olson, and is currently located in Sturgis, Michigan. Morgan Olson produces walk-in vans, dry freight box truck vans, and cargo van upfittings. In 2003, Morgan Olson was purchased by J.B. Poindexter & Co., Inc. (JBPCO), a diversified manufacturing company headquartered in Houston, Texas. JBPCO has eight profitable subsidiaries, with combined revenues of $1.4 billion and 6,200 employees.
The company is the world’s largest producer of delivery vans. Morgan Olson produced 20,000 vehicles this year and plans to ramp up production with the addition of the Danville facility.
The Danville location was chosen over a site in Northern Virginia.
The announcement was made Friday by Gov. Ralph Northam at Danville’s Institute for Advanced Learning and Research.
Danville Del. Danny Marshal, a member of Virginia’s Tobacco Commission, announced that the commission is contributing almost $1.2 million to the facility.
