PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – A Pittsylvania County man was killed in a motorcycle accident Sunday.

Virginia State Police identify the victim as 40-year-old Jerry Wayne Benfield of Sandy Level.

The accident happened Sunday evening just after 6:00 on Route 908, one mile north of Route 777 in Pittsylvania County.

According to investigators, a 2007 Harley Davidson was traveling east on Route 908, when the motorcycle ran off the left side of the roadway and struck an embankment. Benfield was thrown from the bike and died at the scene. State Police say he was wearing a helmet.

The crash remains under investigation.
