DANVILLE, VA – A Danville man will be sentenced for a double murder in January.
Onis Moon admitted to killing an elderly couple in their Danville home in November 2018 and faces a life sentence for his crimes.
Valean Ferrell Barley and her husband, Royal Douglas Barley, were both stabbed to death and their daughter beaten at the couple’s Lexington Avenue home.
Royal Barley was 83 and confined to a wheelchair. His wife was 87. At the time, Moon was dating their daughter, Sandra Callands, who survived the attack.
Danville Police responded to a disturbance call about 10 p.m. on November 7, 2018. Officers found the couple dead and their daughter seriously wounded. Moon was arrested a short distance from the home and confessed to the crimes.
Under terms of an agreement with the prosecution, he pleaded guilty to capital murder and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. Callands requested that Moon not receive the death penalty.
The judge accepted the plea and set sentencing for the January term of court.
