ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A high school student has been arrested and charged in last weekend’s double murder in Halifax County.

18-year-old Mohamed A. Aly was arrested without incident Thursday and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Alexandria Public Schools told FOX 5 DC that Aly was taken into custody at T.C. Williams High School, where he is a student and member of the football team. Aly is being transferred to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Halifax, Va.

Officers responded to Rt. 58 in Halifax County near Melon Road where a silver, 2009 Nissan Maxima was located in the median around 2:50 a.m. Saturday, February 8. 21-year-old Ntombo Joel Bianda, of Alexandria, Va., and 19-year-old Ayanna Munne Maertens Griffin, Germantown, Md., were found lying dead in the grass nearby. Both died of gunshot wounds.

Investigators have not given any information as to a possible motive in the homicides.

“State police personnel have been working around the clock pursuing multiple leads related to this homicide investigation,” said Capt. David O. Cooper II, Commander of the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Appomattox Field Office, adding: “We cannot thank the public enough for providing the tips and information necessary to aid our special agents” in making a speedy arrest.

Since Saturday, the FBI Richmond Field Office, ATF and several other local law enforcement agencies have been assisting state police with the investigation. Various searches in Halifax County have been aided by K9 teams from the Virginia Department of Corrections and the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office.
