The Virginia Department of Health is now reporting 141 coronavirus-related deaths as of Sunday morning.

The VDH lists 5,274 COVID-19 cases. Of those, 872 people have been hospitalized and almost 40,000 have been tested across the commonwealth.

The figure represents a rise of about 200 new cases in 24 hours.

The latest figures were provided by the Department of Health. Virginia’s death toll increased from 121 to 141 between Friday and Sunday. North Carolina is reporting 81 deaths and 4,520 confirmed cases of the novel virus.

The U.S. death toll from the coronavirus eclipsed Italy’s for the highest in the world Sunday at more than 22,000, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University. There have been more than 560,000 caronavirus cases in the U.S.
