Swift water rescue teams braved raging floodwaters in Southwest Virginia to rescue those trapped in their homes by flash flooding.

In Pulaski, an elderly man was rescued from his partially submerged car as firefighters waded through waist-deep water to reach him. Gov. Ralph Northam said that similar scenarios were repeated across the state Monday. 10 homes were flooded in Pulaski; 20 water rescues were reported in Washington County; while severe flooding was also reported in Abingdon and Bristol.

Meanwhile, volunteers from Danville are heading to Cleveland, Tennessee to help tornado victims there. God’s Pit Crew sent a tractor-trailer truck full of supplies to the region on Monday. They plan to distribute toiletries and help residents rebuild.

On Tuesday, a semi-truck full of relief supplies from God’s Pit Crew’s satellite site in Dallas, Texas will head to Collins, Mississippi to help disaster victims there.
