The death toll from COVID-19 in Virginia is now up to about 350, with more than 10,000 coronavirus cases statewide. The death toll rose from 324 to 349 Wednesday.

The state department of health says that 11 of those deaths followed an outbreak at a northern Virginia long-term care facility where patients and staff have fallen ill over the past month. Jeannie Adams is director of legal services for Commonwealth Care of Roanoke, which provides management and consulting services to Dulles Health and Rehab Center in Herndon. She said 11 coronavirus deaths have occurred at the facility since the first positive test there March 28. Since then, there have been 63 positive test results of patients. Adams said 19 staff members have also tested positive.

Virginia authorities have reported 91 outbreaks at long-term care facilities across the state, resulting in 78 deaths, including one at a long term care facility in Danville.

Danville City Council has adopted a resolution involving social distancing inside local businesses. It’s in response to the failure of some businesses to follow safety precautions outlined by the state.

The resolution urges all businesses that are allowed to remain open during the pandemic to require six feet of separation in checkout lines; require all employees to wear masks; limit the number of customers in their stores; and provide customers with paper towels and disinfectant.
