DANVILLE, Va. – One person suffered burns and was treated for smoke inhalation following a house fire at 129 Nelson Ave.
Danville firefighters were called at 2:17 Wednesday morning. They arrived within 5 minutes and found heavy smoke inside the one-story house.
The occupant was outside and advised a cat was still inside the home. The cat was located and brought outside but did not survive.
Fire damage was confined to the living room with smoke and heat damage throughout the house. The home is not habitable until repairs can be made.
The occupant was treated for burns to the hands, feet, and chest and was transported by ambulance to the Sovah Health Emergency Room.
The fire was caused by careless smoking.
