PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about an email extortion scam targeting local residents.
The email threatens to release images and/or videos of the email recipients if the person does not comply with the demands of a Bitcoin deposit. The scammers provide the recipient with a password that, in some cases, is an actual password previously or currently being used by the recipient.
The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office says if you receive this email, do not respond. Simply delete the message and do not send money or Bitcoins to the scammers.
