DANVILLE, Va. – Two people are now charged with setting a fire that destroyed a Danville home.

The Danville Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the fire at 157 Wood Avenue and determined that it was set intentionally and that the cause was “incendiary.”

Mildred  Ganey Herndon and Shad Leonard Lavinder have been arrested and remain in the Danville City Jail. Both face arson charges.

Crews responded to 157 Wood Avenue at around 6:30 on the evening of April 21 and found flames coming from the rear of the small frame house. A ladder truck was brought in to battle the blaze and firefighters had the flames knocked down in two hours. The house sustained major damage and was condemned.

The building was vacant at the time and there were no injuries.

Firefighters were on the scene for about four hours.
