HURT, Va. – A company will invest $34 million and create 200 new jobs in the northern end of Pittsylvania County.

The Staunton River Regional Industrial Facility Authority approved an agreement Friday that enables Staunton River Plastics, LLC to move forward with plans to locate a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility within the Southern Virginia Multimodal Park in Hurt, Virginia.

The company is the first tenant for the new industrial park, which is located on the site of a former Burlington Industries textile mill.

Staunton River Plastics is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rage Corporation, a plastics manufacturer with headquarters in Ohio and an existing plant in Altavista that specializes in products used every day in the beauty and healthcare industries.

The company will spend $34 million to build and equip a new, approximately 250,000 square-foot plant.

“Virginia’s infrastructure, dedicated labor force, and diverse manufacturing footprint continue to spur leading manufacturers like Rage Corporation to reinvest in the Commonwealth,” said Secretary of Commerce and Trade Brian Bell. “Its operation in Altavista and new Staunton River Plastics facility in Pittsylvania County will enable the company to respond to the critical increased demand for polymer materials. We thank Rage Corporation for its confidence in the Commonwealth and for creating more than 200 new jobs in Southern Virginia.”

The company said they will focus on manufacturing essential components which make up a variety of products that will be used by people across the nation as they battle COVID-19.

The site in Hurt was chosen because of its proximity to the Altavista plant.

The project will be in multiple consecutive building phases, with the first phase anticipated to be in commercial operation by the middle of next year.
