DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Police Department has charged the man involved in a crash that tied up traffic for hours with driving under the influence of drugs.

Investigators say 35-year-old Anthony Giles was stopped in his pickup at the light on Piedmont Drive at Lowes Drive just before 5:00 Wednesday afternoon. When the light turned green, Giles didn’t move.

Vehicles began going around Giles’ truck. That’s when police say he put the pickup into reverse and rammed another truck owned by the Danville Life Saving Crew.

Giles then headed south onto Piedmont Drive before turning right turn onto Memorial Dr. Police say Giles drifted in and out of both traffic lanes before running off the right side of the road at Memorial and Country Club Court, where his truck overturned, breaking a utility pole.
