DANVILLE, Va. – Four incumbents on Danville City Council will be joined by newcomer Barry P. Mayo.
Sherman Saunders was the top vote-getter Tuesday, with 3,454 votes. He was followed by incumbents Lee Vogler, Larry Campbell, newcomer Barry Mayo and Madison Whittle. Councilman Fred Shanks finished a close sixth behind Whittle. Five seats were up for grabs in the election. There were nine candidates.
Renee Hughes received the most votes – 3,551 – in the contest for four school board seats. She will be joined by Phillip Campbell, Tyrell Payne and Charles McWilliams. Tedd Goldean finished fifth.
Just over 19 percent (5,350) of Danville’s 27,651 registered voters went to the polls. More than 2,000 voted by absentee ballot.
