DANVILLE, Va. – With much more rain expected in our area, forecasters now say that significant flooding is likely along the Dan River as more rain falls Wednesday and Thursday.

Another three-to-five inches of rain is expected in Southside Virginia, with showers likely through Friday and heavy downpours possible Wednesday night.

Rain totals could exceed 5″ in Danville, South Boston and Martinsville by Thursday night, and a few totals could reach 7″. That could lead to moderate flooding later in the week, especially along the flood-prone 501/58 intersection at Riverdale.

The Dan River is expected to crest in Danville sometime Friday, followed by a crest in South Boston on Saturday.
