river-floods

DANVILLE, Va. – The Dan River crested at 27.5 feet Friday evening, six-and-a-half feet above flood stage. That surpassed the 27.2 foot depth seen in February, making this the third highest level since Hurricane Fran in 1996. The Dan River crested above 30 feet in October 2018, during Tropical Storm Michael.

The National Weather Service says while the river has reached its crest, a Flood Warning continues for the area through Sunday.

The flooding left the boat dock, Riverwalk Trail and portions of the River District under several feet of water and closed flood-prone streets and roads.
