(Campbell County, VA) – Current 5th district congressman Denver Riggleman has lost the districts primary campaign to attempt to retain his party’s seat in Congress. Riggleman of Nelson County was beaten by Bob Good a former Campbell County supervisor who received a reported 58% of the vote.
Due to COVID-19 the republican primary for the 5th district was held at Tree of Life Ministries in Lynchburg. It was a single site drive thru style convention and after more than 2,400 votes were cast by district delegates Good was announced the victor.
Riggleman who was endorsed by President Donald Trump will only serve one turn after defeating Democrat Leslie Cockburn in 2018. He claimed on twitter that the process resulted in ballot stuffing and other irregularities occurred throughout the process.
The format for the convention was changed amidst the Coronavirus pandemic and delegates came from all over the territory to cast their votes.
Good is now set to square off with the winner of the Democratic primary on June 23rd. The candidates are Roger Dean Huffstetler, John Lesinski, Clair Russo and Cameron Webb.
