DANVILLE, Va. – Danville Police charged Antoine Juwan Jefferson, 22, with felony homicide and felony child abuse in the death of his three-month-old son. Police arrested Jefferson Friday in Danville without incident.

This investigation began August 9, 2020, when the parents drove the infant to the hospital for treatment because the child was unresponsive. Medical staff at Sovah Health – Danville notified police.

The hospital transferred the infant to Duke University Medical Center, where he died August 12.

Police immediately began a thorough investigation that resulted in Friday’s charges based on evidence collected and collaboration with the Medical Examiner’s Office and the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.
