Lake Charles, La. – Recovery efforts continue as thousands in Louisiana are still without power following Hurricane Laura.

Hundreds lined up at the Walmart in Lake Charles where dozens of volunteers handed out food, water and household necessities.

Volunteers from God’s Pit Crew in Danville are continuing to work in Lake Charles, where they’ve been since the day after the storm. Crews are dealing with heat and humidity as they work to clear trees from homes and yards.

Crew Chief Randy Johnson says the first teams arrived Friday with more help on the way. 8 trucks loaded with equipment and relief supplies arrived the first day and three more semi trucks responded over the weekend. Johnson says there is no power or water and volunteers from Danville are working to clear trees with temperatures in the mid-90s.

Volunteers say they’re not sure what’s next, but they’re going to go wherever they’re needed.
