DANVILLE, Va. – Danville City Council has officially cleared the way for voters to decide whether they want a casino operation in town.
At Tuesday night’s meeting, council approved a performance agreement with Caesars Entertainment, the company that wants to build a casino-resort on the former Dan River Schoolfield site.
The agreement outlines what Danville can expect from the multi-million dollar project. Caesars will invest $400 million dollars in the resort, hire 1,300 workers at $15 an hour minimum and buy the city a fire truck and ambulance.
Caesars also agrees to give Danville $15 million up front and an estimated $20 million in city tax revenue by the third year of operation. In addition to the casino, the resort is slated to include a concert hall, restaurants, a conference center and a spa.
Voters will have the final say in the November election.
