Campbell County, Va. – A 30-year-old caregiver now faces felony charges in the death of a toddler.

Megan Paris is charged aggravated malicious wounding after Campbell County authorities say a three-year-old died from injuries inflicted by Paris.

The toddler died September 18 in Gladys. The child had been airlifted to Roanoke-Carilion Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said Paris is the former girlfriend of the child’s father. According to authorities, Paris and the victim were living in the same home at the time of the incident.

Campbell County Investigators say Paris may also face additional charges as their investigation progresses.

The sheriff’s department and the commonwealth attorney’s office are awaiting the results of an autopsy conducted by the chief medical examiner.

The police investigation is continuing.
