DANVILLE, Va. – There have now been 49 positive tests for COVID 19 within three quarantined areas at the Danville City Jail. There are 63 inmates housed in the three quarantined housing areas.

Danville Sheriff Mike Mondul provided the updated figure Saturday evening, noting that the jail currently has 255 inmates in custody.

Mondul went on to say that he and his administrative and medical staff “have been working with Health Department officials and others to appropriately deal with this situation.”

On Wednesday, Mondul told the media that one inmate had a positive diagnosis. The patient was placed in quarantine and the jail physician reported that his fever had dropped.

On Friday, Mondul confirmed that 23 of out 25 inmates had tested positive for COVID-19 in three of the jail’s housing units.
