DANVILLE, Va. – All of the 255 inmates at the Danville City Jail will be tested for the coronavirus Tuesday morning.
The decision comes after 49 inmates tested positive for COVID-19 over a a four day period. Only one inmate has been transported to the hospital; however, it is not know if his illness was COVID-related.
Sheriff Mike Mondul said his staff is working closely with the Health Department to monitor the situation in an attempt to prevent further spread of the virus. The infected inmates were all in three quarantined units separate from the rest of the jail population.
Mondul said the results of Tuesday’s tests will be released as soon as practical.
There were no new reports of the virus at the jail on Monday.
