MARTINSVILLE, Va. – A man was shot after police say he forced his way into a home and demanded jewelry he said belonged to his mother.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office says 55-year-old Glenwood Ray Draper of Martinsville called 9-11 late Saturday night to report that Perry Wayne Hall, 37, of Rocky Mount, was in his home threatening him and intoxicated.

It’s believed Hall drove to the 900 block of Hidden Valley Dr. and walked to Draper’s house. After knocking, he forced his way inside and demanded he be given rings that belonged to his mother. He then began looking through the home. Draper dialed 9-11.

While searching the house, Hall found a loaded gun and was shot in the stomach as the two struggled over the weapon.

Draper called 9-11 a second time to report the shooting. Hall was taken to Sovah Health Martinsville and then flown to Roanoke for surgery. He remains hospitalized.
