DANVILLE, Va. – The Dan River region — including Danville and Pittsylvania County — remained under a flood watch and a flood warning for the Dan River Thursday morning as remnants of a tropical storm stalled over the region.
Moderate flooding was forecast for Danville, with the possibility of more heavy rain Thursday morning before the storm begins to move out of the area. The cold front will make its way east and should take the heaviest rain with it by late Thursday morning leaving clouds and scattered showers into the afternoon.
Elsewhere in Virginia, the National Weather Service reported five water rescues in Appomattox County Wednesday night and road flooding in Lynchburg.
The NWS reported several flooded roadways across the county as heavy rains pummeled the area.
The five water rescues included those at North Creek Road and River Ridge Road.
The Dan, James, Roanoke/Staunton and New Rivers should start to reach bank full late Thursday or early Friday.
