(WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.) – President Donald Trump on Sunday signed legislation that paves the way for a second round of stimulus payouts to Americans. As part of a $900 Billion COVID-19 relief bill Americans that make less than $75,000 per year can expect $600. In a statement, the President repeated his frustrations with the COVID-19 relief bill for providing only $600 checks to most Americans instead of the $2,000 that his fellow Republicans already rejected. He also complained about what he considered unnecessary spending by the government at large. Also included in the package is extensive funding for the following areas:
- Unemployment insurance ($120 Billion)
- Paycheck Protection Program ($284 billion)
- Vaccines, testing, health providers ($69 billion)
- Other areas including Schools, Rental Assistance, and Child Care Allowances
Also signed last night was a $1.4 Trillion Omnibus package that keeps the government funded and functioning until September of 2021. President Trump in a statement said, “I will sign the Omnibus and COVID package with a strong message that makes clear to Congress that wasteful items need to be removed.” The omnibus measure wraps 12 spending bills into one. It combines Democratic priorities such as a $12.5 billion increase over existing budget limits for domestic programs while cutting Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention and removal costs by $431 million. COVID-19 has contributed to sharply lower costs. Republicans supported sustained defense spending, energy provisions and longstanding bans on federal funding of abortion. The measure also provides President Donald Trump with a last, $1.4 billion installment for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. The President has vowed to send portions of that bill back to congress for changes but signed in an effort to get the increased COVID payouts pushed through. Those changes are suggestions for Congress to review but won’t necessarily guarantee change.
