RINGGOLD, Va. – Virginia State Police have identified the man who died in a single-vehicle accident in Ringgold as 26-year-old Cornell L. Lipscomb of Danville. Lipscomb was killed and two other people were injured when the Jeep Cherokee in which they were riding left the road and struck a tree.

The wreck happened just before 2 a.m. on New Year’s Day on the Tom Fork Road, about 2 miles east of Ringgold Road in Pittsylvania County.

According to state police, the Jeep Grand Cherokee was headed west on Tom Fork Road when it ran off the right side of the highway and hit a tree.

One person was ejected from the vehicle and two others were trapped inside until they could be freed by Ringgold Fire and Rescue.

Lipscomb was driving the Jeep Cherokee and died at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt.

27-year-old Lekita L. Jones was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Jones was riding in the front seat and was also wearing a seat belt.

A passenger in the back seat, 24-year-old Malik Williamson,  was thrown from the Jeep. He also was taken to the hospital and treated for serious injuries. State police say Williamson was not wearing a seat belt.
