UPDATE: Dawson is in police custody.
DANVILLE, Va. – Danville Police have identified a suspect in a Thursday morning shooting that left a teenager in critical condition.
Danville Police have charged Deauntae T. Dawson, 33, in connection with a shooting that happened around 2:15 a.m.
A 911 caller reported that a man had been shot inside a house in the 300 block of Chatelaine Avenue.
The Danville Lifesaving Crew transported the victim, a 18-year-old Danville man, to the emergency room and later Sovah Health Danville transferred him to Duke University Hospital. The man was most recently listed in serious, but stable condition after suffering a gunshot wound to the upper chest.
Investigators developed Dawson as the suspect and learned the shooting likely stemmed from an argument between Dawson and the victim.
Dawson left the scene before police arrived. Police found his vehicle abandoned near Kentuck Road and the Danville city limits.
Investigators charged Dawson with malicious wounding and several firearm-related charges. Police are still actively looking for Dawson and the department encourages anyone with information on his location to call Crime Stoppers or 911.
