DANVILLE, Va. – Danville Police have arrested a suspect in a Thursday morning shooting that left a teenager in critical condition.
33-year-old Deauntae T. Dawson of Pittsylvania County faces felony charges related to the incident. Police had appealed to the public for help in locating Dawson Thursday afternoon and confirmed that he had been taken into custody at around 5 p.m.
A 911 caller reported that a man had been shot inside a house in the 300 block of Chatelaine Avenue. Police and rescue responded about 2:15 a.m. and the Danville Lifesaving Crew transported an 18-year-old Danville man to the emergency room. Sovah Health Danville later transferred him to Duke University Hospital. The teen was last listed in serious, but stable condition after suffering a gunshot wound to the upper chest.
Investigators developed Dawson as the suspect and learned the shooting likely stemmed from an argument between the two. Dawson fled the scene before police arrived and officers found his vehicle abandoned near Kentuck Road and the Danville city limits.
Following his arrest, Dawson was charged with malicious wounding and several firearm-related charges.
