DANVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Department of Health will hold a second coronavirus vaccination clinic on the campus of Averett University Saturday.
Averett University’s E. Stuart James Grant North Campus will again serve as the site for the Virginia Department of Health’s Pittsylvania/Danville Health District second dose COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Saturday, February 20.
This event is only available to those who received the first dose at the same location on January 23, 2021.
Visit the Virginia Department of Health’s new website to pre-register for your vaccine if you are eligible in Phases 1a or 1b. Pre-registering does not reserve a vaccine or create an appointment, but rather collects the data for the VDH to contact you to schedule your appointment.
Those who have already pre-registered at one of VDH’s local portals will automatically be merged into the new database.
It is not necessary to register again. You can check and confirm your status at www.vaccinate.virginia.gov.
Meanwhile, the Virginia Department of Health has confirmed the first case of the SARS-CoV-2 B.1.351 variant has been identified in a sample from an adult from Southwest Virginia who recently returned after international travel. All contacts of the case have been identified and appropriately managed.
The B.1.351 variant, which first emerged in South Africa late last year, is associated with increased person-to-person transmission of COVID-19. At this time, there is no evidence that infections with this variant cause more severe disease.
To date, the variant has been identified in 9 other states.
