DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at Woodside Village at 1321 Piney Forest Road, Apt. B16 at 2:28 am Saturday morning.
The first crews on scene reported smoke showing from a second-story apartment. Firefighters entered the apartment and found fire in the kitchen area. As firefighters entered the apartment the ceiling fell in the kitchen.
The fire started on the stove top and spread to the cabinets in the kitchen. The fire was controlled within ten minutes.
The rest of the apartment had heat and smoke damage. A search of the apartment confirmed everyone had gotten out safelyd. The other seven apartments were also searched to confirm everyone was out of the building.
Two downstairs apartments received water damage.
The Fire Marshal confirmed the fire was started by unattended cooking. Three apartments are not livable until repairs can be made. The Red Cross is assisting three adults and four children with lodging for the next 48 hours. All other occupants were allowed to return to their non-damaged apartments.
The DFD responded with three engines, one ladder truck, one safety officer, one chief officer, and the fire marshal. The Danville Police Dept., Danville Utilities, and the Danville Life Saving Crew assisted. All personnel remained on scene for three hours.
