PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – Volunteer firefighters from eight departments responded to a large brush fire in Pittsylvania County Sunday afternoon.

The fire along Glade Road blackened about 10 acres of before it was finally brought under control.

The initial call went out just before 1 p.m. Sunday and units from the Renan Volunteer Fire Department were among the first on the scene. Back-up from multiple agencies was requested and firefighters from Gretna, Riceville-Java, Climax, Chatham, Hurt, Cool Branch and North Halifax were among those who fought the flames.

Brush trucks were used to contain the fire as flames kept jumping the fire lines.

It is believed the fire was sparked by a piece of equipment that was being used to clear some land along Glade Road.
