BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – Authorities say the body recovered from the Roanoke River Wednesday was that of a missing Bedford County man.

The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office and the National Parks Service recovered the body near Rutrough Point on the Roanoke River.

Officials later confirmed that the remains are those of Brent Gibson of Bedford County.

A massive search for the 26-year-old was mounted after he left work for lunch on March 3 and never returned. His truck, cell phone and personal belongings were found in the vehicle near the Roanoke River Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The cause of death has not been determined.
