DANVILLE, Va. – A fire at the Sedgefield Court Apartments in Danville was set intentionally and arson charges are pending.
The Danville Fire Department responded to call from 105 Sedgefield Court. Heavy fire was showing from the front of the two-story building when the first units arrived. All occupants of the six units got out safely and there were no injuries.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one apartment, although a second unit suffered smoke and water damage. Both are unlivable until repairs can be made.
Three adults and two children were left homeless by the fire and are being helped by the American Red Cross with temporary housing.
The fire marshal investigated and the cause of the fire was determined to be arson. Charges are pending.
Three engines, one ladder truck, a safety officer and one chief officer were on scene for two and one-half hours.
