DANVILLE,Va. – A Danville man has been charged with arson in a Sunday morning apartment fire that left five people homeless.

Police have arrested 59-year-old Joe Louis Logan and charged him with domestic assault and battery, and arson in a pre-dawn fire at the Sedgefield Court Apartments.

There were no injuries but two units were left unlivable. Three adults and two children are being helped by the Red Cross with temporary housing.

The Danville Fire Department responded to call from 105 Sedgefield Court early Sunday morning. Heavy fire was showing from the front of the two-story building when the first units arrived. All occupants of the six units got out safely.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one apartment, although a second unit suffered smoke and water damage.

No motive was given as to why Logan may have started the fire.

Logan is currently being held in the Danville City Jail.
