DANVILLE, Va. – A man charged with killing a Danville cab driver in January was in court Monday and saw his case forwarded to the grand jury. A preliminary hearing was held and probable cause was found to certify the Commonwealth’s case against James Edward Fultz, IV.

The 47-year-old Fultz is charged with fatally stabbing the driver of a cab in which he was riding on the night of January 12.

The driver, 51-year-old Wendy Harris of Danville, died at the scene. According to police, Harris was found slumped over the steering wheel. Fultz left the scene before police arrived, but investigators tracked him to a location on Temple Avenue and took him into custody, following a short foot chase.

Fultz is charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death. He is also charged with the December 27 robbery of Carter’s Quick Shoppe at 3103 West Main Street.

The prosecution called six witnesses to the stand during Monday’s preliminary hearing. One was given a tape recorder to place in her car, on which Fultz was heard admitting to the murder.
